Whole grains has been part of what human beings have been eating for a long period of time.

However, recently there’s a shift from whole grain foods to refined foods because people want to feed on fast food. This has led to many ailments. Presently we are still battling with the health outcome of such foods. It is therefore Paramount for us to consider shifting from this unhealthy foods we take to a more healthy eating.

Whole grain has been considered to be beneficial because of the advantages attached to it when compared with refined grains which has been linked to causes of obesity,inflammation and some other non-communicable diseases. Eating whole grain is advantageous to health because it lowers risk of diabetes,heart diseases and high blood pressure.

Whole wheat grains can either be grounded into fine powder, crushed or cracked. Whole wheat grain is made up of three parts. Which are the bran,the germ and the endosperm. As long as this three parts of grains are present In their original portion, they are considered as whole grain and they serve health benefits to those consuming them.

To talk about refined grains, some parts of it has been removed, making it less nutritious than the whole grain

Oat meal to mention a few.

Importance of whole grain.

The importance of whole grains include:

  1. High in nutrients and fibers: whole grains are high in vitamin B, in minerals, Protein and antioxidant.
  2. Lowering of a person’s risk of heart diseases.
    3.Lowering of risk of type 2 diabetes.
  3. It’s importance in food digestion.
  4. Reducetion of chronic inflammation.
  5. Reduction of obesity risk.

  1. aptly written..kudos but how do I prepare an all nutrient included meal with the grains above take brown rice as an example.

    1. You can’t get all nutrients by consuming a variety of food. You have to combine the foods from different food groups to be a balanced diet. You can make vegetable sauce with fish,ganised with locust beans and small oil. Just take that with brown rice and add maybe fruit salad or a cup of smoothie.
